For Clubs in Scotland, contact the Regional Administrator of the SAA to find out where your local club is located. You will find their e-mail address on the SAA Website - on the Contacts page SAA Regional Administrator. Then simply contact the club and arrange to go along to the club, where you will attend a beginner's course. It should be remembered that not all clubs run beginner's courses and some only run courses at specific times. For example Loreburn Archers only run a beginners course at the start of the Indoor Season and there is often a waiting list. For Clubs in England, Wales and Northern Ireland, the Grand National Archery Society has a web page for locating clubs by county GNAS Clubs in England, GNAS Clubs in Wales and GNAS Clubs in Northern Ireland You will be given in-depth instruction and coaching during your course, covering the basic techniques of archery, including safety, to ensure that you gain the maximum enjoyment from the very start. All equipment will be provided by the club, so you won't need to supply anything. At the end of your beginner's course (4-6 weeks) you will be invited to join the club, and affiliate to the SAA. The club will have equipment you can use until you are ready to buy your own. It is recommended that you do not buy any equipment until you have sought the advice of the club coach or an experienced club member.

Archery is a very safe sport because all archers adhere to strict safety guidelines published by GNAS. These guidelines are followed to ensure maximum safety and enjoyment. Each club night there will be a designated member who will act as 'Field Captain' in control of the shooting. You must always adhere to the instructions of the Field Captain.

Archery is one of the few sports that can be enjoyed by almost everyone, whether they be able-bodied, or have a disability. It is possibly the only sport where beginners can compete next to an Olympic archer! Archery provides something for everyone - social recreation or fierce competition - Archery offers it all!
